Partnering to create value for residents
Many village managers and operators are on the lookout for ways they can provide additional service and value to residents. Naturally, having a trusted partner who can provide a service residents want and need, without requiring significant support from the village manager, is an appealing option.
Equity Trustees has successfully partnered with the Village Glen since 2006, assisting potential new residents to decide whether the move will suit their lifestyle (and financial) goals. This is done through a combination of ongoing discussions between Equity Trustees and village management, and the regular presentation of seminars for residents and potential residents.
“We have received many letters from residents thanking us for our referral, and complementing Equity Trustees for their assistance and professionalism,” said Peter Nilsson, Chief Operating Officer of the Chas Jacobsen Group (owners of the Village Glen and Ti Tree aged care facilities).
For those already living in the village, Equity Trustees stage regular presentations on topics including estate planning and the financial journey to residential aged care.
“Many residents make the move to lifestyle villages because they want to downsize – our experience is that they downsize in order to fund a comfortable and active retirement. Our aim is to make sure they know what they need to know to maintain control over their affairs,” said John Acton, Business Development Manager, Equity Trustees and regular presenter at villages nationally.
“We have a set series of three seminars which we provide for free on site, based around topics we are constantly asked about: portfolio management for wealth preservation and growth, estate planning and wills, and planning for independence in ageing. We follow through by making ourselves available – again on site – for one-on-ones with residents afterwards,” he explained.
The partnership between the Village Glen and Equity Trustees has included information sessions at village open days for prospective residents, newsletter handouts and articles for village bulletins – a regular request from the managers of many villages in response to demands for information from residents about planning for the future.
