Parramatta North set for transformation

Parramatta North is set to be the focus of a major urban transformation project led by UrbanGrowthNSW and has been declared a State Significant Site.

The Parramatta North Urban Renewal area is comprised of four precincts, including Parramatta Park, Cumberland Precinct, Sport and Leisure Precinct, and the Old Kings School Precinct. These areas contain important heritage assets and some of the country’s most architecturally significant sites, including Australia’s first farm and first water mill and the Parramatta Female Factory.

The transformation will showcase Parramatta’s multi-layered heritage, both Indigenous and colonial, and will adaptively reuse buildings for community, cultural and commercial uses.

The development will involve improvements to local parkland and open space. A 146-hectare parcel of Government owned land on the banks of the Parramatta River will be transformed into a vibrant new area and a river walk towards Lake Parramatta will be created.

Additionally, the project has the capacity to provide approximately 6,000 new homes and create 2,000 permanent jobs.

The Property Council has been advocating for investment into major centres such as Parramatta. The Property Council welcomes the proposed transformation as an opportunity to create vibrant precincts and accelerate investment, jobs and housing.

Early heritage and infrastructure works will commence within the year. A rezoning application will be lodged in September and the first development applications in 6 months’ time.
