Parliament Passes Spit Implementation Bill

PARLIAMENT PASSES SPIT IMPLEMENTATION BILL

Queensland Parliament have passed the Implementation of the Spit Master Plan Bill 2020 with minor amendments.

The Spit Implementation Bill will facilitate the Implementation of the master plan, designed to enhance the Gold Coast Spit’s amenity by enhancing connectivity, entertainment offerings and unlocking new public realm areas.

The Property Council provided extensive feedback on the proposed master plan throughout 2018 and 2019, supporting its intent and suggesting amendments to maximise the Spit’s potential contribution to the local economy. 

Amendments to the Planning Act 2016 were also contained in the Bill with specific amendments relating to correcting of an error in the compensation provisions. 

The Property Council welcomed the Government’s proposal to amend this section, however, it was recommended that the relevant section should apply retrospectively.

The Property Council looks forward to working with government and the Gold Coast City Council on the implementation of the masterplan and in any further amendments to the Planning Act 2016.
