Parliament passes Heritage legislation

This week saw the passing of amendments to the Queensland Heritage Act 1992 through the Queensland Heritage and Other Legislation Amendment Bill 2014.

These welcomed amendments will provide clarity, equality and consistency to the heritage register nomination process, and  increase protections and certainty for owners  of heritage places.

In addition the Property Council is currently working closely with the Department of Environment and Heritage Protection to reduce duplication between the State and local heritage registers.

As part of the Bill, amendments were also made to the infrastructure charges provisions within the Sustainable Planning Act 1999.

Among other things, these amendments resolve the issue of local governments not being able to issue an amended infrastructure charges notice for applications for a permissible change.

The Bill can be found here.
