Over station development

With Martin Place metro station development underway and the recent revitalisation announcement of Central Station, Rodd Staples addressed the May Property Council Business Lunch on the opportunities for over-station development

His presentation covered development opportunities at CBD over station sites, the design vision for sites in North Sydney and how their development will affect Sydney as a global city.

A single tower will rise above the “heart” of each precinct, the main train station, which will include commercial, retail and residential space and the government is seeking concept proposals for design.

Macquarie Group  is the only group that has submitted an unsolicited proposal to design and deliver the Martin Place Metro station.

Together with the Greater Sydney Commission, Sydney Metro will proceed with designs that best integrate land use and infrastructure, thereby achieving more density.

Housing and commercial development is critical close to new transport routes. Sydney is currently in a position where people in the west and south west have far further to travel for work and this must often be done by car -access to work and services will become more  equitable through rail investment. The north and south-west lines will unlock congestion for those living west.

The creation of mini CBDs in Sydney’s west and north connected by rail  means we can start to work towards goals such as 30-minute city and less congestion on our roads.

The current Sydney Metro line will run north and south-west, book-ended by Cudgegong Road in the north-west and Bankstown in the south-west.

Consideration for a Sydney Metro West that runs through the Sydney Olympic Park to Badgerys Creek will be considered in the second half of the next decade.
