Opposition’s Budget Reply Speech
On 30 June 2015, the Leader of the Opposition, Steven Marshall, delivered his Budget Reply Speech to the South Australian Parliament.
In this speech, he outlined details of an Economic Stimulus Plan to create jobs and stimulate our state’s economy. Importantly, the majority of his vision affects the property and development sector in a real and direct way.
The key planks of his Economic Stimulus Plan are listed below. It’s important to note that a number of his initiatives form key planks of the Property Council’s reform agenda.
- Bring forward planned Stamp Duty relief to take effect this year;
- Increase the Payroll Tax threshold permanently to lower the cost for businesses to employ people;
- Reduce the Emergency Services Levy by reversing the $90 million hike in the State Government’s 2015-16 Budget;
- Commence the building of the Northern Connector to link the Northern Expressway with the South Road Superway;
- Finalise the feasibility for upgrading the Strzelecki Track to unlock tourism and mining opportunities in the state’s north;
- Establish a South Australian Productivity Commission to remove burdensome regulations and red tape.
