Opposition Leaders’ Address
The Queensland Opposition Leader, Deb Frecklington, was the keynote speaker at the Property Council’s Townsville luncheon on Tuesday 3 September.
The state of the economy in North Queensland, combined with slowing construction activity and land sales, were highlighted by the Opposition Leader in her opening remarks.
The nine new or increased taxes on the property industry featured heavily in the address with the Opposition Leader reaffirming the LNP’s commitment of no new or increased taxes as part of her broader economic plan if they are elected next year.
Mrs Frecklington also took the opportunity to outline another commitment to ensure quicker approvals processes for major projects, with the LNP to set stricter targets for the Coordinator General if successful in the October 2020 State Election.
Following lunch, the Opposition Leader was joined on stage by Laurence Lancini AM, Managing Director – Lancini Property and Development and Immediate Past President of the Property Council, and Teri Humphreys, Director – Townsville Earthmoving and the Chair of the Property Council’s Townsville Chapter, for a moderated panel discussion.
The panel covered the topics of the North Queensland economy, taxes, the need for a Minister for the North Queensland, and the recently released North Queensland Regional Plan.
The Property Council would like to thank Deb Frecklington for taking time to speak with our members in Townsville. Thanks also goes to Laurence and Teri for their contributions through the panel discussion.
A special thanks to our Townsville Corporate Partner, RCP, for their ongoing support.
