Open House showcases Property Council members’ exemplar projects

Open House Perth, held last weekend, provided a rare opportunity for the public to get an up close and personal glimpse into Perth’s best buildings, including homes, offices, towers, religious spaces and historical spaces.

Now in its seventh year, the Open House program boasted over 100 destinations to visit and over half of this year’s program made their first debut in the two-day festival – the highest number of first-timers since it began in 2012.

Many of Property Council’s members opened their doors and welcomed the public in to get a sneak peek of their unique projects.

Mirvac, a major partner of the initiative, celebrated the grand opening of Claremont by Mirvac by exhibiting ten apartments that were styled and furnished by some of Australia’s leading designers and local artists.

“At Mirvac, our focus has always been on exceptional design – creating spaces for people to live in that are beautiful, functional and stand the test of time,” Mirvac General Manager for Residential Development WA Paige Walker said.

“Our attention to detail with respect to design aligns closely with the purpose of Open House Perth and the event provided a wonderful opportunity to welcome the public to Claremont by Mirvac so that they could see the finished product and experience the quality first hand,” Ms Walker said.

“More than 1,000 visitors came through Claremont by Mirvac during the weekend, giving attendees an opportunity to see a range of living options, from one bedroom apartments to executive three bedroom terraces homes.

“Being part of Open House Perth 2018 was a perfect way to let people experience the design of Claremont by Mirvac and a wonderful opportunity for Mirvac to collaborate with exceptionally talented local WA designers and artists.”

Woods Bagot opened their design studio to restoration lovers, to showcase the beautiful Palace Hotel. The 121 year old building, now home to one of Australia’s biggest architecture firms, played host to an exhibition of local artists and projects.

“Speaking personally, it was a real privilege to be part of the Woods Bagot team showing visitors around The Palace, splendidly restored as a Perth heritage icon and home to our wonderful architectural studio,” Ben Fereday, Design Leader at Woods Bagot said.

“It was great to have the opportunity to point out the extensive history of the building (opened in 1897), the work that went into the beautiful restoration – and the way in which our modern workplace interiors really pull into focus the gorgeous heritage of The Palace,” Mr Fereday said.

“We really valued hearing visitors’ own stories about The Palace and we got great feedback and questions on the video presentation we had running on the first floor. This tells the fascinating heritage story of the building – and some of the skilled craft and cutting edge thinking that went into its restoration.

“Altogether it was a very successful event for The Palace!”
