OPEN FOR CONSULTATION

Public consultation has opened for the Brisbane Knowledge Corridor draft framework and proposed amendments to the Gold Coast City Plan.

BRISBANE’S KNOWLEDGE CORRIDOR AND PRECINCT RENEWAL STRATEGY

Brisbane’s knowledge corridor runs north to south and will feature the five key precincts that will be interconnected by the Cross-River Rail and Brisbane Metro. The corridor incorporates a large array of Brisbane’s knowledge intensive industries including universities, research institutes and hospitals.

Brisbane’s knowledge corridor: a framework for connecting people, places and ideas is an overarching strategy to enhance the development of this corridor. The framework will be the starting point for the renewal process and will be supported by individual renewal strategies for the five key precincts contained within the corridor – Exhibition, Roma Street, Albert Street, Woolloongabba and Boggo Road.

Feedback is due by Monday 29 June 2020.

AMENDMENTS TO THE GOLD COAST CITY PLAN (THE SPIT)

The Spit Masterplan was announced last year to guide the development of the Gold Coast Spit as a community asset. The Queensland Government also amended the Planning Act 2017 to enable the implementation of the masterplan.

The Planning Minister has given ministerial direction to the City of the Gold Coast to amend its City Plan to ensure that future development aligns with the Spit Masterplan.

The proposed amendments aim to ensure that:

  • zoning of each key development site is compatible with the land uses shown in the Master Plan
  • each land use shown in the master plan is prescribed a level of assessment that is either code assessable or accepted development
  • appropriate benchmarks are prescribed for each of these key development sites to deliver the outcomes shown in the master plan.
