Big and Small Ideas for Perth
In recent weeks, the advocacy team has been building on the momentum of the Big and Small Ideas for Perth report through meetings with key inner-city stakeholders.
In addition to media statements the Division has written to relevant parliamentarians, heads of state agencies, local governments and key CBD stakeholders including not for profit and industry groups.
Our advocacy has generated meetings with City of Perth Economic Development Unit, Committee for Perth, Member for Perth John Carey MLA, Adrian Fini, Tourism WA and Tourism Council to date.
The Property Council will also present the finding of the report at the City Summit, hosted by Member for Perth John Carey MLA on August 19.
Partial Lifting of Memorials Campaign
The Division finalised its report on what the industry wants from the next round of reforms to the retirement village act. An extract of the report outlining industry challenges industry with memorials has been sent to the Commerce Minister and his Senior Policy Advisor, Penny Bond will be attending attend the retirement living conference. Full Private Certification for Building Permits Campaign
The Property Council will be meeting with the Building Commission in August and will propose a trial of full private certification with key local governments to discuss. A similar proposal will be put to the Minister for Commerce in response to his request for further information. The Division has written to the Australian Institute of Building Surveyors WA for support.
Fire Safety Audit of High-Rise Buildings
A State-wide audit is being conducted of all buildings 3 stories and above with aluminium composite external cladding. Property Council is representing building owners on a reference group at the Building Commission and will assist the Building Commission in developing a strategy on behalf of owners.
DAPs
The Division is alert to commentary made by the Minister for Transport, Planning, Lands, and the member for Perth around community concerns with DAP decisions. The Division will continue to deliver the message that industry wants to maintain the current DAP model with majority of independent members in our advocacy.
