NT Planning Commission Update The Northern Territory Planning Commission (NTPC) is working towards finalising all of its current projects in coming months to allow for Planning Scheme amendments before the middle of the year. The NTPC has consulted extensively on each of its projects; both up front around the early release of a detailed discussion paper, and then again around the subsequent release of a draft plan. There is also a third opportunity for feedback as it recommends plans and policies to the Minister for exhibition as Planning Scheme amendments. Darwin Inner Suburbs Area Plan – Recommended to Minister and currently on exhibition. Alice Springs Regional Land Use Plan – Nearing completion for recommendation to Minster for exhibition. Darwin Mid Suburbs Area Plan and Litchfield Subregional Land Use Plan – Both drafts are currently out for further consultation and are expected to be finalised for recommendation to the Minister next month. Low Risk, Low Impact Development Amendment – Expected to be recommended to Minister next month (April 2016). There will be other opportunities for feedback in the coming weeks: Katherine Land Use Plan Amendment – Proposal to enable an additional neighbourhood commercial centre on the Stuart Highway in Katherine East Darwin Esplanade Building Design – early stages of reviewing height, volumetrics and building design. Dual Occupancy in Zone SD – Following discussions in Darwin area planning and Alice Springs land use projects, about to release discussion paper and proposal changes to Planning Scheme for dual occupancy across NT. NTPS Performance Criteria – Preparing proposed changes to Planning Scheme to incorporate concepts around residential development and mixed use activity centres as identified in Darwin Inner Suburbs Area Plan. Recently completed: Alice Springs CBD Planning Provisions, including a maximum building height of eight storeys which was recently incorporated into the Planning Scheme. Holtze Area Plan was exhibited in September 2015 and the next step is Planning Scheme amendment.
