NSW’s best buildings and brightest talent vie for awards

The world’s tallest timber commercial building, a sustainable shopping centre and an affordable student accommodation project are among the 62 finalists from New South Wales vying for recognition at the 2017 Property Council of Australia / Rider Levett Bucknall Innovation and Excellence Awards in May.

The awards program, now in its 35th year of partnership with RLB, showcases the exceptional projects, innovative solutions and outstanding achievements of Australia’s property industry.

Among the finalists is a strong representation from both the Illawarra and Hunter region, International House at Barangaroo, on track to be the world’s tallest timber commercial building, and the Primus Hotel in Pitt Street.

Several shopping centres are in contention for the Yardi Award for Best Shopping Centre Development. In addition to Stockland’s Shellharbour development, The Ponds, in North West Sydney, has also been nominated in recognition of its world-class commitment to sustainability.

Two affordable housing projects in Sydney are also in contention: the Platform Apartments within the heritage Carriageworks precinct in Eveleigh and student accommodation The Steps Central Park.

Four large-scale developments are in the running for the EPM Projects Award for Best Master Planned Community.

Sanctuary in the Hunter region, Elizabeth Hills in Sydney’s South West, Shell Cove south of Wollongong and Fairwater in Blacktown will be home to thousands of people, and all demonstrate how innovative approaches can enhance the natural environment and enrich the lives of residents.

All national development finalists are in the running for the industry’s most coveted prize – the Rider

Levett Bucknall Australian Development of the Year award. All development projects named as finalists are also vying for the State Development of the Year award in their state.

National award winners will be announced at the 2017 Property Council of Australia / Rider Levett

Bucknall Innovation and Excellence Awards Gala Dinner, to be held at the International Convention

Centre Sydney on Friday 5 May 2017. Tickets are now on sale and can be purchased here.
