NSW Election Update

With just under two weeks to go until the NSW State Election, the Property Council NSW team has been working hard to inform, engage and keep government leaders to account; to ensure that both parties are not losing sight of how important good growth and strategic planning is across NSW.

Some of the key policy announcements in which have been responded to include:

  • Labor’s announcement to ‘scrap’ the Medium Density Housing Code. We believe the Medium Density Housing Code should be implemented post-election, and if implemented well, will provide more diverse housing and better good growth outcomes across Sydney.
  • Liberal’s announcement to make further changes to the laws governing the retirement village sector. We believe these changes need further consultation to ensure they do not put future supply of this critical form of housing at risk.
  • Liberal’s announcement of a Building Commissioner and changes to the construction process. We believe these changes demonstrate a clear and considered plan for reforms to the industry and include sensible changes such as introducing a Building Commissioner.
