NORTH QUEENSLAND REGIONAL PLAN TO SHAPE REGION’S FUTURE

The Queensland Government has released the finalised version of the North Queensland Regional Plan (NQRP).

The North Queensland Regional Plan is a 25-year strategic framework intended to guide the region’s development and grow the local economy. The NQRP encompasses the areas of Burdekin, Charters Towers Hinchinbrook, Palm Island and Townsville.

Four key goals have been identified, each with a list of ‘implementation actions’ which have now been given effect by the plan. The goals are:

  1. A leading economy in regional Australia
  2. A rich and healthy natural environment
  3. Liveable, sustainable and resilient communities that promote living in the tropics
  4. A safe, connected and efficient North Queensland

The NQRP’s progress will be monitored through bi-annual ‘health check’ reports.

The Property Council has been involved in the two and a half year consultation process during the development and refinement of the plan.

The final plan adopted initiatives that reflect the priorities that the Property Council advocated for across several submissions.
