North Queensland Regional Plan released
The Property Council has welcomed the announcement that the first-ever draft Regional Plan for North Queensland has been released.
The draft NQ Regional Plan is a 25 year strategic, statutory planning document for the local government areas of Burdekin, Charter Towers, Hinchinbrook, Palm Island and Townsville.
The aim of the draft NQ Regional Plan is to guide how land use and infrastructure planning can best cater for and support economic growth and population change in the region over the next 25 years.
This will be achieved by identifying the key regional goals, regional outcomes to achieve these goals, regional policies to deliver on these outcomes and the state’s intent for the future spatial structure of the region, including infrastructure priorities.
The Townsville Committee and the Property Council previously released a position paper on the North Queensland Regional Plan in 2017, which identified seven key priorities as critical to delivering a regional plan with a purpose.
The Property Council will engage with our Townsville Committee and begin forming a formal response shortly. Consultation on the draft document closes on 22 November 2019.
