North Qld Regional Plan announcedA North Queensland Regional Plan will be developed by the State Government, covering the five local government areas of:BurdekinCharters TowersHinchinbrookPalm IslandTownsvilleIn announcing the first plan of its type for North Queensland, the Government outlined the importance of a considered regional plan to maximise opportunities for economic development and improved liveability.A public consultation process will be conducted by the Department of Infrastructure, Local Government and Planning in mid-2017.It is expected that the North Queensland Regional Plan will finalised in early 2018.The Property Council has been actively engaged with the Government in their ongoing review of the South East Queensland Regional Plan and has released a position paper outlining the property industry’s expectations regarding key features of a successful regional plan. The Making the Plan a Realitydocument outlines what will be required to restore the industry’s faith in the value of statutory regional planning.A draft of the revised South East Queensland Regional Plan is due in early October.
