North Australia
The Property Council NT Division has been actively engaged with key personnel involved in unlocking the North’s potential through the Our North, Our Future – White Paper on North Australia Development Overview.
Developing North Australia is a nation building exercise that will deliver benefits for all of Australia, not just the NT. Unlocking and developing the full potential of North Australia will boost Australia’s prosperity by increasing exports, creating jobs for the Territory, delivering prosperity and ensuring that the Northern Territory economy continues to grow.
The NT has a vast amount of untapped resources and enormous capacity for further agricultural, industrial, and commercial development.
Over the last few weeks, the Property Council has met with federal member for Solomon Natasha Griggs MP, has attended the North Australia Capital City Committee meeting with the Chief Minister, Adam Giles MLA, Lord Mayor Katrina Fong Lim, Chief Executive of Lands and Planning Rod Applegate and we have met with General Manager, North Australia Development Office (NADO) Luke Bowen.
As it currently stands, our Territory roads, communications and infrastructure are not yet capable of supporting the expected growth of 317,000 people by 2031. All levels of government need to continue developing policy and planning strategies that will enable our cities and communities to effectively mange this growth.
The Property Council is committed to working closely with the North Australian Development Office.
As a well-respected advocacy body, our voices are being heard and our Federal and Territory leaders have taken on board our ideas and advice. There is a lot of behind the scenes work that we are participating in and I will endeavour to provide that information as we progress with our discussions.
General Manager, NADO Luke Bowen is available and keen to discuss the North Australia overview and I encourage all members to contact me with any ideas, concerns, or opinion relating to this.
Luke and his team hold various information sessions around the Territory and has advised that he would be available to host an information / feedback session for members. Please contact me if this is something you would be interested in hearing more about.
