Non-conforming building products reform

The Queensland Parliament has passed the Building and Construction Legislation (Non-conforming Building Products – Chain of Responsibility and Other Matters) Amendment Bill 2017, the first of its type in the nation.

The Bill contains ‘Chain of Responsibility’ provisions to tackle the issue of non-conforming products through to the point of supply or production.

In addition to these provisions, the Bill expands the powers of the Queensland Building and Construction Commission (QBCC), and requires QBCC licensees to notify the QBCC about activities on a site that might present a workplace health and safety issue.

The Property Council has provided submissions on the issue of non-conforming building products through the Queensland Building Plan discussion paper, and the Queensland Parliament’s inquiry into the Bill. These submissions have highlighted the need for a harmonised approach to this issue across the nation.

Non-conforming building products will be the topic of the upcoming Property Council building materials compliance seminar on 5 September.  For more information and to register for the event, click here.
