Newstead North Neighbourhood Plan
Brisbane City Council has released a draft Newstead North Renewal Strategy for public consultation as the next step in the development of a neighbourhood plan for the area.
The draft strategy contains four strategies that the new neighbourhood plan will seek to facilitate:
- supporting the ongoing role and continued evolution of inner-city industry and business activity
- encouraging a residential mix that balances growth and protects local character
- breathing new life into public places and streets
- facilitating convenient movement and access to local and inner-city destinations.
Submissions close on the draft strategy at 5pm on Friday 29 July 2016. For further information on the draft strategy and how to make a submission visit the Council’s project website.
The next stage in the development of a Newstead North Neighbourhood Plan will be the release of a draft in late 2016, with the final adoption and gazettal expected in late 2017.
Brisbane City Council will also now begin work on major amendments to the Bulimba District Neighbourhood Plan following the adoption of Temporary local planning instrument 03/16 Redevelopment of Bulimba Barracks. The temporary planning instrument went live on 10 June and provides greater clarity to industry and the community on the Bulimba Barracks Master Plan area.
The Property Council has also provided a submission on Brisbane City Council’s draft Spring Hill Neighbourhood Plan, supporting the intent of the draft plan and the outcomes it aims to achieve.
With over 30 years since the Spring Hill area last underwent a planning exercise, and over two years since the planning process commenced, the Property Council has encouraged both Brisbane City Council and the Queensland Government to expedite the finalisation of this plan.
