NewActon: Mixed-use building at its bestThe ACT’s NewActon development has been presented with the Australia Award for Urban Design for a completed large-scale project, with the lead judge calling it a “precinct of surprise and delight”.Developer Molonglo Group, architect Fender Katsalidis and landscape architect Oculus were presented with the prestigious award, which was established by former Prime Minister Paul Keating in 1996.The Property Council says the award is a win for all Canberrans and serves as a reminder that the city is capable of building spectacular new spaces at a relatively rapid pace.It also says the NewActon precinct is a shining example of a mixed-use building. The precinct embraces the philosophy of public occupation by attracting a variety of patrons. It encourages this by providing a mix of experiences in which the public can take part, and by creating a culture of space.According to the Property Council, NewActon demonstrates the possibilities when parties come together to regenerate public spaces, repurpose older buildings and create better places for people.Read more about NewActon’s award win here
