NewActon: Mixed-use building at its bestThe ACT’s NewActon development has been presented with the Australia Award for Urban Design for a completed large-scale project, with the lead judge calling it a “precinct of surprise and delight”.Developer Molonglo Group, architect Fender Katsalidis and landscape architect Oculus were presented with the prestigious award, which was established by former Prime Minister Paul Keating in 1996.The Property Council says the award is a win for all Canberrans and serves as a reminder that the city is capable of building spectacular new spaces at a relatively rapid pace.It also says the NewActon precinct is a shining example of a mixed-use building. The precinct embraces the philosophy of public occupation by attracting a variety of patrons.
