NEW QUEENSLAND PROJECTS ADDED TO 2020 INFRASTRUCTURE AUSTRALIA PRIORITY LIST
The Gold Coast Light Rail Stage 3A and three sections of the Bruce Highway are amongst four new Queensland projects added to the Infrastructure Priority List.
Infrastructure Australia (IA), the national independent infrastructure advisor, provides governments at all levels with a list of nationally significant investment opportunities for the near, medium and long term. To be included on the Priority List, a proposal must undergo a thorough business assessment and prove to have significant benefits to the community.
The addition of the Gold Coast Light Rail 3A and three sections of the Bruce Highway upgrade means there is now over $6 billion worth of nationally significant projects for Queensland on the Infrastructure Priority List.
With the Gold Coast population expected to increase by 55 per cent by 2041, the Gold Coast Light Rail 3A project is critically needed to address the challenges of rapid population growth and high levels of car dependency in the area.
The Bruce Highway was recognised as a strategically important project due to its role in the National Land Transport Network and as the primary transport route to the east coast of Queensland.
The Infrastructure Priority List includes four new Priority Projects for Queensland, with a combined value of more than $2 billion:
- Gold Coast Light Rail: Stage 3A
- Bruce Highway – Cooroy to Curra Section D: Woondum to Curra
- Bruce Highway – Deception Bay Road Interchange Upgrade
- Bruce Highway – Maroochydore Road Interchange Project
