New planning legislation unveiled
This week, the Deputy Premier and Minister for State Development, Infrastructure and Planning, Hon Jeff Seeney MP, introduced much anticipated planning legislation into the Queensland Parliament:
- – Planning and Development Bill 2014
- – Planning and Development (Consequential) and Other Legislation Amendment Bill 2014
- – Planning and Environment Court Bill 2014
These three pieces of legislation aim to streamline and simplify Queensland’s planning and development assessment system, and will replace the current Sustainable Planning Act 2009.
The Department of State Development, Infrastructure and Planning (DSDIP) has worked closely with the Property Council and other key stakeholders in the development of this legislation, with public consultation on the draft bills being held in late August and September this year.
DSDIP has produced a suite of supporting material to assist practitioners in better understanding the elements of the proposed new system. These are available on the reform website.
In addition, DSDIP are hosting a live streamed event on Friday 5 December, from 9.30am to 11.30am which will provide an overview of the proposed framework. To register for the live stream, click here.
The legislation has been referred to the State Development, Infrastructure and Industry Committee, with submissions due by 19 January.
The Property Council’s previous submission on the draft Bill outlines some positive changes for industry and highlights a range of areas that require further review. These areas will be the focal point of a future submission to the Parliamentary Committee.
