New planning laws a step closerThe Queensland Parliament’s Infrastructure, Planning and Natural Resources Committee has recommended the passage of the Government’s new planning legislation with minimal amendments. The Committee’s recommendation is an important step towards achieving a streamlined, 21st century planning system for Queensland.Although the LNP members of the committee have put forward a dissenting report in favour of their own Private Member’s Bills, a vast majority of the legislation enjoys strong bipartisan support. After three years of extensive consultation, the Property Council looks forward to the speedy passage of the legislation. To ensure a smooth transition into the new planning framework, the Property Council has called on the Government to commit to a five year implementation support program for local governments.Regulatory instruments that support the new legislation are being developed by the Department in consultation with industry and the community. The Property Council’s submission to the Committee’s inquiry can be viewed here.
