EI Australia (EI) is an Australian owned company that has been established for 25 years, providing geotechnical and environmental engineering consulting services for both brownfield and greenfield sites. Based in New South Wales (NSW), EI provides services in contaminated land and geotechnical engineering including acid sulfate soils, waste management, landfill assessment and drilling services.

In addition, EI also provide hazardous material consulting services including asbestos and hazardous materials property compliance inspections, remediation action plane, technical advice, clearance inspections and certificates.

EI has a diverse team of experienced professionals including environmental scientists, geotechnical engineers, structural engineers, geologists, hydrogeologists, certified environmental practitioners (contamination specialists), licenced asbestos assessors, occupational hygienists, chartered engineers and RMS certified slope risk assessors.

  2. You are newly established in Wollongong, what brought you to the area?

EI has worked in the Illawarra region for over 15 years. With a growing client base and a rapid increase in development and growth in the region, it was a natural progression for the company to expand and open an office in the region. EI has many links to the region, from staff that have grown up in the area and completed their studies at Wollongong University, to former environmental managers from offices in the Illawarra. With this in mind, the Wollongong office team bring extensive knowledge about the region and combine that with an understanding of what services industry require in the Illawarra and South Coast region.

  3. What type of projects are you currently working on in the Illawarra?

EI has worked on over jobs in the Illawarra region ranging from contaminated land assessments and remediation, to hazardous materials surveys and geotechnical engineering studies involving foundation and excavation design and slope stability. Notable former projects in the region also involved mine rehabilitation projects on Mt Keira. In addition, our certified contaminated land professionals are reviewing other consultant’s reports in the region for submission to Council.

Elsewhere, EI has a number of large projects including the remediation of a former unregulated landfill at Narellan, along with a number of EPA declared significantly contaminated sites impacting underlying soils and groundwater. The Narellan project recently won a national sustainability award from the Australian Land and Groundwater Association (ALGA).

  4. What are the key priorities for your organisation? What makes you different?
At EI Australia, we pride ourselves on being able to assist our clients to achieve their required project outcomes – as specified, on time and on budget. We do this by effectively managing and advising our clients of risks and solutions associated with site specific contamination and geotechnical conditions, whilst maintaining a high level of communication and transparency with our clients throughout projects.

This high level of communication and interaction with our clients is what we believe sets us apart from the field. EI also recently received a Client Choice Award for ‘Best Built Environment Firm’ (2019), which highlights this principle.

  5. What is the best thing about working at EI Australia?
