New laws for short stay apartmentsShort stay apartment owners could be liable for damage, noise or loss of amenity caused by their guests, under proposed laws introduced by the State Government.The reforms would give VCAT new powers to award compensation of up to $2000 to neighbours, and ban short stay apartments which are repeatedly used for unruly parties.Short stay apartment owners may also be ordered to pay neighbours’ compensation and any damage caused by their guests to common property.Additionally, Consumer Affairs Victoria will conciliate short stay disputes that cannot be resolved through the owners corporations dispute resolution processes.
