New guide aims to encourage international investorsA new guide aims to educate international investors on the differences and advantages of Australia’s creditor protection laws and to encourage deeper, broader sources of debt funding for industry.According to Andrew Mihno, executive director of International and Capital Markets at the Property Council, the Australian real-estate market is one of the most stable, sophisticated and transparent in the world. “Despite these favourable characteristics, many overseas lenders do not understand Australian creditor rights – and this is potentially holding back foreign investment,” Mihno says.Credit and enforcement rights in the Australian property industry, an investor debt broadsheet, was developed by the International and Capital Markets’ Chief Financial Officers Roundtable.”The broadsheet explains Australia’s creditor enforcement rights in plain English and dispels any unfounded perceptions that are holding back offshore lenders,” Mihno explains. The broadsheet includes a side-by-side comparison of the Australian creditor protection laws with that of the United States. “Roundtable members hope the broadsheet will educate foreign lenders, boost industry’s capital management profile and decrease liquidity risk. “As a consequence, it will improve the credit pricing of Australian real estate borrowers supporting the industry, jobs and broader economy.”Download the ‘Credit and enforcement rights in the Australian property industry’.
