New growth areas – Wilton and Macarthur
Plans have been announced for a new self-contained community at Wilton New Town with its own town centre. The area will be supported by schools, roads, new services, land for jobs and open space and an 11 hectare recreational lake.
First homes are expected to appear as soon as 2018. The community will have around 16,000 homes over the next 30 years.
Additionally, new boundaries have been announced for the Greater Macarthur Priority Growth Area incorporating the new land release areas of Menangle Park and Mt Gilead. The new land release areas will accommodate around 35,000 home sites and provide capacity for future expansion after 2036 as demand requires.
The turbocharging of housing supply needs to be a priority as Sydney is projected to be 190,000 homes short by 2024. The Property Council supports urban renewal and the creation of new growth areas. We commend the Government’s initiatives to plan for future growth.
