New community for Leppington

The south-west of Sydney is set to be transformed with a new community planned for Leppington. Located kilometres south-west of Sydney’s central business district, the new neighbourbood will contain more than 13 hectares of open space, two new schools, a community centre, walking trails and cycleways.

The new community will capitalise on its proximity to the nearby Leppington station which opened earlier this year.

Currently the area is sparsely populated with about 2,000 people and semi-rural properties.  Up to 2,0 new homes will be built in the first stage, with up to 6,0 to follow over the next four stages, with construction to commence in about two years and work on supporting infrastructure beginning next year. The rezoning will be staged to allow for the timely delivery of key infrastructure such as water and electricity.

The community will house 30,000 new residents in a mix of low density apartments and freestanding homes, especially terrace-style houses.

The Property Council welcomes the boost to housing supply in the middle of the south-west growth centre. Research released earlier this year shows Sydney missed its housing targets by ,000 over the past decade and without change, will fall short of demand by 190,000 by 2024.
