New Coastal Management District to commence
The Queensland Government has declared a new Coastal Management District (CMD) that will commence on 3 February, 2016. The revised CMD includes a projected climate change sea level rise of 0.8 metres to 2100.
The declaration of the new CMD follows a period of public consultation undertaken by the Department of Environment and Heritage Protection (DEHP) last year. During this time the Property Council lodged a submission highlighting the impacts of the new CMD on property rights, along with concerns regarding how the CMD and recently revised erosion prone area and storm tide inundation mapping will take effect through the land-use planning framework.
The CMD delineates the area in which the Department of Infrastructure, Local Government and Planning (DILGP) has assessment manager or referral agency powers for certain development applications under the Sustainable Planning Act 2009.
Interactive mapping will be available on the DILGP website when the CMD takes effect on 3 February. You can access copies of mapping prior to this date by emailing [email protected].
