New City Act Must Embrace StateThe Property Council’s vision for the new City of Perth is that of a city with a strong connection with State Government and that provides for the primacy of the CBD, while nurturing a vibrant and complementary urban fringe. The Property Council supports the call for the Act to include a framework for collaboration which will oblige the State Government and the City of Perth to coordinate strategic issues and jointly identify critical initiatives.Property Council Executive Director Joe Lenzo said “the City of Perth Act needs to ensure there is a strong connection between the Local and State Government, enabling the development of the City to be coordinated and prioritised.””The development of the City of Perth needs to retain a strong focus on the CBD.””Over 100,000 workers spend more than a third of their day in the Perth CBD. This is why the existing voting entitlements of the City of Perth must be retained in the Act, to enable the business community to have a say in the future of their working environment.””Currently commercial property owners and tenants have to reregister to vote after every second election, while residential owners stay on the roll. The new Act needs to address this anomaly.””Registering to vote should be kept simple, with all voters remaining on the electoral role unless they say otherwise.”The Property Council strongly opposes any attempt to remove or wind back DAPs in the City of Perth.
