New Brisbane River floodplain management plan and building guidance
The State Government has partnered with four SEQ local governments and Seqwater to develop a new Brisbane River Strategic Floodplain Management Plan and a flood resilient building guide for homes.
Fifty-two actions have been outlined in the Strategic Floodplain Management Plan to guide how the State and Local governments will work together to better manage flooding risks within the Ipswich, Lockyer Valley, Somerset and Brisbane local government areas. Seventeen of those actions will have state-wide application.
The Government intends to use the new management plan as an exemplar for future floodplain management plans across Queensland.
State Government collaboration with the construction and insurance industry has resulted in the development of the Flood Resilient Building Guidance for Queensland Homes document. This document provides builders and community members with practical advice on how to construct more resilient homes to withstand future flood events.
