NEW BIFOLA LEGISLATION 

A new regulation has been introduced to give effect to elements within Queensland’s Building Industry Fairness and Other Legislation Act (BIFOLA).

The BIF Transitional Regulation has been approved and will commence on October 1. The regulation contains two amendments to the BIF Act regarding progress payments and adjudication.

The timeframe for an exemption for private certifiers to secure exclusion-free professional indemnity insurance cover has also been extended from 30 June 2021 until 30 June 2022.  The changes also clarify that exempted licenses (issued prior to 30 June 2022) will continue to apply until the exempted license expires.
