New apartment design guidelines for NSWAfter three years of review, the NSW Government has released its revised apartment design guidelines for public consultation. The Property Council welcomes the SEPP65 reform package and the contemporary framework provided. The draft Guide is a step forward in supporting housing supply and affordability provided they are reinforced in application as a rule of thumb. “We need to re-assert the principle that they are in place to encourage good design through innovation rather than prescription”, said Property Council NSW Executive Director Glenn Byres. High-level changes for reflection include:Incorporating mixed use and top shop housingRemoval of minimum parking spots for developments close to public transport, andIncreased flexibility in design solutions The reform package is on exhibition for public feedback until Friday 31 October 2014.
