Negative gearing update
Throughout February and March, the Property Council released a series of advertisements highlighting the importance of negative gearing in maintaining ongoing housing supply and affordability.
Almost two million Australians own an investment property and almost 1.2 million negative gear.
Negative gearing is a vital part of the economy, and the means by which Australians from all walks of life secure their financial future.
The message to politicians was clear – don’t play with negative gearing.
The advertisements were designed to start a conversation with the grassroots of our industry, and to communicate the importance of negative gearing to the community.
The ALP have released their policy position on both negative gearing and CGT for investments.
Media reports indicate that the government has moved away from proposing any changes to negative gearing, however the government is only expected to release its comprehensive tax policy as part of the Federal Budget (or potentially before).
