NBN briefing on telecommunications infrastructure
On 12 August, the Property Council held a member briefing in Melbourne on the Commonwealth’s Telecommunications Infrastructure in New Developments Policy
The new policy guides how telecommunications will be delivered in new developments and introduces charging by NBN to build new infrastructure.
Key elements of the policy include:
- Developers will be required to contribute to the cost of providing telecommunications infrastructure;
-
The NBN is required to charge the Retail Service Provider a one-time charge of $300 to place an order for an NBN network service to premises in a new development;
- Provider of Last Resort Responsibilities will remain largely the same;
- Consistent with the multi-technology mix model, NBN will be able to select the technology it will deliver to developments;
- Developers will continue to be able to choose carriers;
- Developers will continue to meet the cost of pit and pipe; and,
- Where appropriate, NBN will work with stakeholders to simplify pit and pipe specifications.
