More capacity and reduced impact from light rail
The prospect of reduced construction times and greater capacity is on offer with the announcement of a preferred bidder for the CBD & South East Light Rail.
The NSW Government has announced the preferred bidder is Connecting Sydney consortium – comprising Transdev Sydney, Alstom Transport Australia, Acciona Infrastructure and Capella Capital.
Contractual negotiations will now be advanced, but the additional capacity and detailed construction program will potentially benefit the CBD.
The Government is flagging an increase of up to percent in patronage capacity – up from the 9000 passengers per hour previously promised.
And though details are being finalised, the Government is also committing to an earlier end date – easing the potential impact on property owners, business and transport in the CBD.
Meanwhile, a schedule of preliminary underground works will commence in coming weeks and will impact on George St on weekends.
No intersections closures will occur on weekdays or Saturdays in the lead-up to Christmas. Major works will not commence till after the Anzac Day celebrations in April 2015.
The Property Council is a member of several working groups related to the project and is working to ensure impacts on property owners and business is mitigated as much as possible.
