Minister Urges Councils To Introduce Simpler RulesLocal Government Minister Tony Simpson has urged local governments to introduce simpler rules, online tracking of applications and speedier resolutions for customers seeking straightforward renovations to their homes.Mr Simpson said “if I submit a development application in one council, I can get dealt with by an officer. But in another it has to go to a council meeting.””We can iron out some inconsistencies, improve our approach across the city and across the State to local planning, and make everything less complicated and more focused.”Mr Simpson urged councils to work with WALGA, the Local Government Managers Australia and the Department of Local Government and Communities. While he conceded that one size would not fit all on everything, he said many improvements could be made in the interests of ratepayers and residents.
