Minister launches Wollongong City on the Move campaign

Minister for the Illawarra John Ajaka MLC will launch the Property Council’s pride campaign, Wollongong City on the Move this Thursday at the Illawarra Chapter’s lunch being hosted to coincide with the grand opening of The GPT Group’s $200m expansion of Wollongong Central.

Wollongong City on the Move is a campaign aimed to highlight just how much investment is progressing in this regional city and what that means in terms of changing the city’s identity.

Almost $1 billion worth of investment projects are highlighted in the city centric brochure – providing a variety of new housing that will see the CBD residential population increase by at least 75% as the projects are completed.

“We wanted to encapsulate the level of investment in Wollongong’s CBD which is really changing the face of this city, providing new job opportunities and an appetite for entrepreneurism,” said Property Council’s Regional Director Amanda Kunkler.

The next steps will be simply to utilise Property Council members to encourage property owners who may not be actively investing in their Wollongong asset to do so whilst the current level of activity is occurring and to encourage more positive city stories to be shared with the community.

“There are some great incentives and support programs being run by Wollongong Council too – including the second stage of their facade upgrade program and their Creative Spaces strategy,” Ms Kunkler said.

“We’re delighted the Minister for the Illawarra can join us in sharing the city’s celebrations and some of the good news stories by launching our pride campaign.”

Launch of the Wollongong City on the Move will occur at the lunchtime event on Thursday, 9 October, at the Regent Theatre. Click here for event details.
