Migration and economic growth This month the Property Council was invited to an industry leaders forum featuring key speakers from agriculture, manufacturing, hospitality and other industries. Members of State and Federal Parliament (including Senator Nick Xenophon, Steven Marshall MP, Tom Kenyon MP) and the South Australian Centre for Economic Studies (SACES) were also in attendance. The debate was frank and emotive at times and raised important policy issues. Matters canvassed included migration’s contribution to economic growth, labour shortages in regional areas of South Australia (and the impact this has on growing our export economy). A number of reform options were discussed, including changes to significant investor visa thresholds (lowering the current $5M threshold) to encourage more investment into South Australia. The Property Council looks forward to continuing being a part of this important debate and is pleased to partner with Migration Solutions and other industry bodies on a research study into appropriate migration policy settings to drive prosperity, jobs and strong communities for SA to be conducted by SACES.
