Metropolitan Planning Levy update
Following strong opposition from the Property Council, the Metropolitan Planning Levy (MPL), which was introduced by the Napthine Government, will take effect from 1 July.
The MPL will apply to planning permit applications with an estimated development cost over $1 million (in 2015/16, with annual indexing). Failure to pay the MPL will render the application void.
The amount levied will be calculated on the dollar value exceeding the $1 million threshold and is set at $1.30 per $1,000 or 0.13 per cent of the whole value of the development that exceeds the threshold value.
The Property Council is still awaiting advice as to how the MPL will apply to greenfields development.
