Meet the Leaders series continues

The Queensland Future Directions’ ‘Meet the Leaders’ series has continued with three breakfast events held over the last fortnight. The event series provides the opportunity for the next generation of industry leaders to benefit from the insights and experiences of current leaders.

After hearing from Pointcorp’s co-owners Paul Gedoun and Chris Vitale in April, the following leaders have hosted events this month:

Steve Leigh – Managing Director, QIC Global Real Estate

Breakfast attendees were privileged to have the opportunity to be hosted by Steve Leigh in QIC’s Brisbane boardroom. Steve was inspirational and honest on how he envisaged his life in property, QIC and in his assessment of the future landscape of the industry. Steve truly believes all sectors of property, not just retail, will be the key driver for our economy.

Attendees were pleased to have extended face-time with Steve and to be able to ask him personal questions about his life, career and secrets to success.

Don O’Rorke – Executive Chairman, Consolidated Properties

Former Property Council President Don O’Rorke hosted guests on 11 May at Consolidated Properties’ office. Attendees were fortunate to hear the details of Consolidated Properties’ current $2 billion work book that includes master-planned communities, apartment, retail, industrial and commercial office projects.
Don spoke about how he made his way into the development industry that kicked off with a stint at CBRE, and then taking the next steps into development. One of the keys to Consolidated Properties’ success has been developing long standing relationships, and assembling specialist teams that suit the type of product being developed.

Throughout the breakfast Don took the time to explain in detail the ins-and-outs of the business, along with passing on some of the knowledge he has acquired over his 30 plus year career in the industry.

Moya Steele – Partner, MacDonnells Law

Breakfast guests were pleased to be able to hear from Moya Steele, one of Queensland’s best known planning and environment lawyers.Attendees were provided insights into Moya’s experience as the only solicitor to successfully challenge a ministerial call-in, a feat she has accomplished on two occasions.

Moya’s commitment to regional Queensland and her ability to achieve success on a state-wide scale without moving to Brisbane greatly impressed attendees.
She provided excellent practical suggestions for attendees on dealing with conflict, setting personal goals and how to be a successful member of a team.

Two more ‘Meet the Leaders’ events will be held this month:

  • Renaye Peters, Director – Conrad Gargett, 18 May
  • Richard Garing, Regional General Manager, Office & Industrial – DEXUS Property Group, 24 May

Registrations for these breakfasts can be made here.
