Mayoral Candidate Spotlight: Mike O’HanlonThe Property Council sat down with Lord Mayor candidate Mike O’Hanlon to get some insight into what we can expect at the debate.What do you love about Perth?I love the people of Perth. We have hard working, forward looking pragmatic people who are receptive to good ideas. What made you decide to run for Lord Mayor?In recent years I have been paying attention to the behind-the-scenes workings of my favourite parts of the cities that I have visited over the years. I can see the the benefits of embracing the well demonstrated concepts of transparency and Public Private Partnerships to get the best outcomes for everyone. I want to live in a modern cosmopolitan city and I will do everything I can to make my home town fit that description. Where do you see Perth going over the next three years?The tech and disruptive startup scene will become increasingly significant. We have a significant amount of engineering talent and we are seeing a wave of modern businesses develop. If we focus on creating the conditions that will keep these businesses based in Perth, we will see another wave of prosperity.Adopting Private Public Partnership approaches to opportunities such as car sharing services and solar energy generation will simultaneously deliver extra amenity to the person on the street whilst creating jobs and delivering profits to the private sector, sending a strong signal to sophisticated investors, that Perth is a good place to look for progressive yet low risk investments.What can we expect from you at the debate?I’ll talk about the ways in which Public Private Partnership models can help property owners find commercial viability in pursuing best practices with respect to the management of their properties.To hear more from Mike and the other contenders for City of Perth Lord Mayor, make sure you register for the Lord Mayoral Election Debate.
