LOCAL GOVERNMENT PLANNING AMENDMENTS
Brisbane City Council and Sunshine Coast Council have made announcements around several proposed planning amendments.
Brisbane City Council – Major Amendment Package C and E
The following amendments to the Brisbane City Plan 2014 are effective as of October 30 2020:
Major Amendment Package C includes:
- requirements for:
- service stations and industrial development
- air quality modelling, air quality (planning) criteria and odour criteria
- thresholds for dangerous goods storage
- streetscape types in the Streetscape hierarchy overlay
- maintaining and enhancing Brisbane’s heritage and traditional character through updates to the Commercial character building provisions and mapping
- clarifying bushfire assessment provisions and supporting materials
- mapping changes, including overlays.
Major Amendment Package E includes:
- encouraging the expansion of car share schemes
- requirements for:
- landscaped areas and deep planting for multiple dwellings
- development on industrial zoned land
- development around Council controlled road tunnels
- development within transport air quality corridors
- development in the Emerging community zone
- provisions for multiple dwellings and subdivision to provide a variety of housing options to achieve choice, affordability and appropriate design for Brisbane
- updating the Significant landscape tree overlay to incorporate protected vegetation
- increasing protection of riparian vegetation in the Waterway corridors overlay
- expanding special entertainment precincts to include an additional live music venue (The Triffid) without exposing residents or business to unreasonable noise levels
- mapping changes, including zoning and overlays.
The Property Council has provided Brisbane City Council with feedback on both of the proposed amendments. In the feedback, the Property Council raised concern with the intention to delete “distribution centre’ and “transport depot from the Medium Impact Industry definition.

Sunshine Coast Council Planning Scheme Amendment
The Council is proposing an amendment to the Sunshine Coast Planning Scheme 2014 and Planning Scheme Policies in response to changes in the urban footprint under the South-East Queensland Regional Plan.
The amendments propose to amend the zoning and local plan provisions for the specific sites of Bli Bli, Chevallum, Forest Glen, Landsborough and Yandina.
Submissions on the proposed amendments are open until Friday, December 4.
