Local Government Electoral amendments passed
The Queensland Parliament has passed the Local Government Electoral (Impending Stage 2 of Belcarra) and Other Legislation Amendments Bill 2019.
The Bill aims to improve transparency and public accountability of local government elections in line with State and Commonwealth electoral and governance frameworks.
Earlier this year, the Property Council provided a submission on the Bill. The key issues raised in the submission related to the proposed amendment listing variation applications as ‘major policy decisions’ and should not be decided on during caretaker period as well as highlighting concerns with the ‘prescribed conflict of interest provisions’.
During the second reading of the Bill several amendments were moved including changes in response to the issues raised by the Property Council.
