LGAs for 2015 land valuations released

The Valuer-General has announced the local government areas that will receive new land valuations in 2015, including several major activity areas for Property Council members.

The areas announced by the Valuer-General are: Balonne, Banana, Brisbane, Cairns, Cassowary Coast, Central Highlands, Charters Towers, Gladstone, Gold Coast, Gympie, Hinchinbrook, Ipswich, Isaac, Livingstone, Logan, Mackay, Maranoa, Murweh, Noosa, Paroo, Redland, Rockhampton, Scenic Rim, South Burnett, Southern Downs, Sunshine Coast, Townsville and the Western Downs.

Approximately 1.2 million new valuations will be issued across these areas prior to 31 March 2015. In local government areas where new valuations are not issued the most recent annual valuation remains effective.

The Property Council has long advocated that local government boundaries are are a arbitrary measure with which to decide a change in property values and that all local government areas should be revalued annually to ensure equity and consistency across State and local government taxes.

It is therefore encouraging that a large number of local government areas, including the majority of South East Queensland will receive updated valuations in the new year.

The Property Council will continue to advocate for all local government areas to receive annual valuations in 2016.
