LGA casts dark shadow over property sectorThe Local Government Association has today falsely cast a dark shadow over the state’s biggest private sector employer. In issuing a media release motivated by personality rather than policy, the LGA labeled the property sector and all those working in it “just representatives of corporate greed.”The LGA went on to say:”Listening to property developers tell us how we should organise our communities is like a farmer taking advice from the fox as to how he should design his henhouse.””The LGA should seriously take stock and reconsider the dark shadow it has cast over the property sector,” said SA Executive Director Daniel Gannon.”This includes mum and dad investors, young tradespeople buying and selling real estate to make a living, and landlords who have invested in property as part of their superannuation.”Property represents the physical foundation of where we live, where we do business through shops, offices, industrial precincts, hotels, and public buildings, as well as places for our creative and recreational pursuits, which add so much to our quality of life.”In every meaningful way, property is where life happens, yet the LGA has decided to besmirch the 168,000 people working in this great sector.”It’s now clear that the LGA is only interested in playing personality politics, slinging mud, and sullying a sector that pays $4.4 billion in wages and salaries to ordinary South Australians every year.”Despite propagating widespread inaccuracy in today’s media release, it seems that the LGA wants to try to publicly bully stakeholders with an alternate view.”Mr Gannon said the LGA should also remind itself of the 2010 survey undertaken by the Local Government Managers Association. It found that that 54% of Local Government employees supported amalgamations beyond the 1997 reforms. Media contact: Daniel Gannon |E [email protected]
