Today, the Queensland Government has set aside plans to implement the land tax adjustment referred to as the ‘Interstate Land Tax Model’.

There has been mounting pressure on the Queensland Government in both local and national media, particularly as other State Governments have publicly voiced their refusal to share data with Queensland.

The Property Council welcomes this announcement as recognition Government has listened to industry’s concerns regarding both the implementation of the tax and its flow on effects on the market.

Since the announcement of the Interstate Model in December’s MYFER update, the Property Council has worked with the Government to relay industry concerns with the major reform.

Previous communication regarding the adjustment can be found here:

  1. Media Release: 16 December, 2021
  2. Queensland Advocacy Alert: 10th tax on Queensland property since 2016: 16 December, 2021

  5. Letter to the Treasurer 16 December 2021
  6. Letter to the Under Treasurer 29 March 2022

This outcome represents a significant win for both investors and renters and is a welcome sign of the Government’s commitment to address the housing crisis in the lead up to the landmark October 20 Housing Summit.
