Introduction of Full Private Certification for Building Permits – a key reform

The property and construction sectors are suffering from some of the highest regulatory costs in Australia.

The Property Council has written to the relevant Ministers seeking the opportunity to explain a solution to this problem at the local government level.

The State government, through the Building Commission, introduced the current partial private certification of building permits process in 2011. However, the Western Australian model still involves local government in this process which is a duplication of the private certifiers service and cost; as well as adds time delays in issuing building permits, particularly for commercial buildings. The solution is the introduction of full private certification for building permit applications to apply to Class 2 – 9 commercial buildings.
