INFRASTRUCTURE CHARGES ARE NOW ACCESSIBLE ONLINE

The property industry and the broader community can now see how much councils are collecting in infrastructure charges following new legislative changes coming into effect this year.

The changes came into effect on 1 January 2020, making it mandatory for councils to disclose how much they billed developers to finance the building and maintenance of trunk infrastructure. Public Infrastructure Charges Registers and Infrastructure Charges Notices should now be available on Queensland Council websites.

Furthermore, new changes are set to come into effect in April 2020 requiring councils to not only disclose infrastructure charges levied but to disclose where this money is spent.

The Property Council has long advocated for more transparency around the collection and spending of infrastructure charges to increase public awareness of how development contributes to the provision of local infrastructure.

The Property Council congratulates the State Government for implementing this measure which will improve transparency and accountability as well as building greater trust between the community, development industry and government.
