Infill Key To Affordability SuccessInner city developments are now contributing more to the State’s affordable housing targets.Having completed the delivery of 20,000 affordable homes in WA since 2010, the State Government has announced it has a new target of 30,000 by 2020.A significant aspect of delivering these affordable homes has been the construction of the One on Aberdeen and Abode apartment projects in Perth and West Perth respectively. The Property Council has been an active proponent of the view that density and infill provides affordable living opportunities as it addresses more than just the sticker price of a home.Housing Minister Colin Holt said of the Abode apartments project that it “is a model for future developments, delivering significant affordability outcomes in addition to a focus on diversity and innovation.”The 20,000 affordable homes delivered since 2010 include 10,000 Keystart home loans, 1,900 shared equity homes, 2,700 discounted private rentals and 5,400 social housing properties. To read the government’s announcement of the new target, click here.
